AroundSpace Gallery is honored to present artist Ji Dachun’s solo exhibition, Intangible, in the late fall of 2021. Intangible showcases works created in the artist’s Berlin studio between 2019 and 2021. This is also the first solo show by Ji since the COVID-19 pandemic started.
In the last year and a half the global pandemic prevented people from traveling and gathering in physical space, yet it enhanced interactions and communications online, which made distance a relative and remote concept. At the same time art works are no longer just tangible objects such as paintings, sculptures or photographs, but include virtual existences online and behind the blockchain. With his powerful artistic inner energy Ji Dachun faced a whole new unpredictable life experience. His works remind viewers of stars, cosmos, galaxy, mountains and rivers, or a micro-world made of metal elements or cell atomics. They can be both grand and tiny, either distant or close, elusively untouchable. The majority of the works are in black and white. Their austere color palettes contrast their extremely rich textures, which suggests the artist’s acute sense of aesthetics and excellence in navigating artistic forms and content as well as emotions and techniques.
